Something in the Water, Catherine Steadman. Kindle.

Suspenseful, fun,. well-paced.

Catherine Steadman kept me guessing with her entertaining debut novel. I did find the ending to be a little predictable, and the final scene left me with a few lingering questions, but I really enjoyed Steadman’s narrative style. I thought this was an entertaining and modern take on what an ordinary couple would do in extraordinary circumstances. All in all, a solid beach read from a realistic—if at times frustrating—female voice.

Favorite Quotation: “…always read outside your comfort zone. That’s where stories come from. That’s where ideas come from.”

Bonus Quotation: I loved Steadman’s description of her main characters’ wedding ceremony, after much buildup: “Words are said. He slips a thin gold band onto my finger.”
