The Stranger

The Stranger, Albert Camus. Paperback.

Surreal, unsettling.

I somehow made it through high school and college without reading this one, so when I found this copy in a used bookstore I decided to give it a go. Knowing the general storyline—that Meursault committed murder “because of the sun”— I was impressed by the motif of light demonstrating his view of the arbitrary absurdity of life. This was a very interesting read.

Favorite Quotation: “I looked up at the mass of signs and stars in the night sky and laid myself open for the first time to the benign indifference of the world.”
